CHARITIES
The Priory of the Eastern United States and the Commanderies within the Priory are not for profit organizations that support a variety of charitable entities directly serving the sick and the poor.
In Cleveland, the Commandery has facilitated the labor and financially provided the materials to rebuild the senior community center kitchen operated by Vocational Guidance Services. The kitchen serves over 50,000 meals annually to the elderly. In preparation for the 100th anniversary of the East End Neighborhood House (EENH), the Commandery replaced the facility's roof, windows and parking lot as well as painting the exterior. The facility houses day care, after school care, and day and evening care and activities for seniors.
The Commandery of Nicaragua in cooperation with organizations locally and internationally, has concentrated on providing several containers of beds and related equipment and supplies to hospitals and other medical facilities in Nicaragua. Knights and Dames from throughout the Priory have traveled to Nicaragua to learn further of the plight and needs of the people.
The Commandery of the Palm Beaches has provided assistance to a variety of agencies serving abused and neglected children, foster children, homeless families and those in transition. Among them are: Adopt-A-Family, Children's Home Society of Florida Southeastern Division, Operation Hope, Place of Hope, and the YWCA of Palm Beach County. The Commandery has also provided boxes of food to several thousand families; and in cooperation with Food for the Poor, established the Monsignor Federico Arguello Village in Leon, Nicaragua by building and furnishing homes for the first families residing in the village.
The Commandery of Washington, DC has not only financially assisted the Green Door in replacing kitchen and laundry equipment, but also donated clothing and other household items needed by specific clients as they re-enter the community from mental health facilities. In addition, the Commandery has supported Georgetown Ministry Center in its efforts to keep hundreds of homeless living on the streets protected from the cold; and Boys Hope/Girls Hope of New Orleans that encountered severe damage to the boy's group home during the rage of hurricane Katrina..
Members of the Priory also devote many hours of volunteer service to a range of charitable organizations all of which serve children and adults who are troubled, disabled and/or in need of special assistance to live as normal a life as possible.
